I bought my last package of diaper wipes a few days ago.  I read the ingredients on the bag and I was not impressed with the chemicals that I was exposing my baby to.  I was also not impressed with the expense I have incurred by buying the wipes on a monthly basis.  I decided to take a stand and make my own diaper wipes at home that I can reuse.  We have already eliminated the diaper expense since we have been using cloth diapers.    So, I purchased some organic cloth wipes from a local baby boutique called “Papaya Patch” in West Hartford, CT.  They were only $1.25 each and I bought 20.  I figure that will last me about two days, which is how often I wash the cloth diapers.  I went on the Internet and looked up a natural diaper wipe solution which I modified to fit my needs.  The recipe is below:

  1. Heat one gallon of distilled water on the stove top.  Do not boil.
  2. Add 2 tbsp of Aloe Vera Gel
  3. Add 4 drops of tea tree oil.  We have a very potent brand through my business.  See my web address below.
  4. Add 1 tbsp of Melaleuca bath oil.  You can get this through contacting me at www.healthybizathome.org
  5. Add 15 drops of patchouli oil.  Get from your local health food store.
  6. Add 20 drops of lavender oil.  Get from your local health food store.
  7. Mix thoroughly.  Allow mixture to cool.
  8. Place organic diaper wipe cloths in a diaper wipe warmer and saturate with the solution.  Refrigerate any unused solution.  Make sure you label it so no one will drink it.  It does not taste good and it won’t hurt you.
  9. When cleaning baby’s bottom, wipe any solid material off with toilet paper first and discard.  Take a clean diaper wipe and wipe baby’s bottom thoroughly and place in cloth diaper pail.  Wash as you would your cloth diapers.  Remember not to use harsh chemicals as they can affect the absorption of urine.  Also, do not use fabric softener.  It causes the diapers and wipes to repel water and will lead to leaking of urine.

I hope that you have enjoyed my new tip.  Stay tuned!
